UTI PRESIDENT APPOINTED AS U.N. SECRETARY-GENERAL'S PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE
U Thant Institute is delighted and honored to announce the appointment of President Aye Aye Thant as the U.N. Secretary-General’s Personal Representative to the Advisory Board of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).
Daw Aye Aye Thant joins a board of nineteen advisors including representatives from the largest Member State contributors, and other Member State representatives selected for geo-strategic balance, as well as representatives of international NGOs and the personal representatives of the Secretary-General.
Established by the Secretary-General in 2005 as a United Nations General Trust Fund, UNDEF’s primary purpose is to support democratization throughout the world. The Fund finances projects that build and strengthen democratic institutions, promote human rights, and ensure the participation of all groups in democratic processes.
Aye Aye Thant and her fellow advisers will provide policy guidance for the development of program and funding guidelines, while recommending funding proposals for approval by the Secretary-General.
